The PTDF Scholarship provides successful applicants with full scholarships to pursue graduate studies in their field of interest at distinguished universities in the United States and abroad.

The PTDF Scholarship was created in 2003 by the Federal Government of Nigeria, in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. It is a highly competitive program and open to Nigerian citizens only. The program is designed to nurture and promote scientific excellence and develop professionals with the right skills to drive Nigeria’s oil, gas, and energy sectors forward. The PTDF Scholarship is made available for Masters and PhD candidates in the fields of Petroleum Engineering, Petroleum Geosciences, and related fields.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for PTDF Scholarships
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a Nigerian Federal Government agency that supports Nigerian graduates pursuing studies in petroleum technology abroad. PTDF Scholarships are highly sought after and require applicants to meet strict eligibility criteria. The following criteria must be met by an applicant in order to apply and be considered for the PTDF scholarship:

First and foremost, the candidate must be a Nigerian citizen and must reside in Nigeria. The candidate must also hold a valid Nigerian passport or valid travel document. Additionally, the candidate must also provide evidence of admission into an eligible program of study, such as a Master’s degree or Doctoral degree programme; or a Postgraduate Diploma programme at an approved University located abroad.

Furthermore, applicants should have good levels of academic performance and must have obtained a minimum of second class upper division or its equivalent in their last degree earned. Applicants should also have a valid academic Qualifying Examination or Qualification; usually the General Certificate of Education (GCE), Senior School Certificate (SSC), National Examination Council (NECO) or West African Examination Council (WAEC).

Lastly, the candidate must not have received any other scholarship

For the 2023/2024 award, applications will be limited to PTDF partner universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia where it feels the scholarship’s high standards can be maintained and the objectives of the scheme will be best served.
